* Genu recurvatum may rsult from weakness in the hip extensors, weakness or spasticity in the knee extensors, limited dorsiflexion of the ankle due to spasticity or decreased range of motion, impaired proprioception, or a combination of these factors.
* It might be associated with increased risk of knee injuries and knee pain.
* Of the PTs we surveyed, 57.8% considered geu recurvatum problematic, citing a belief that it was associated with injuries and pain. On the other hand, 42.2% considered it a necessary biomechanical compensation to enable stble walking. This differng viewpoint amont PTs may arise from the lack of long-term evidence about the consequences of genu recurvatum in stroke patients, especially with ragard to pain, as well as from the complexity and varibility of the condition.
